FAQ - NetwurX Anti SPAM

What is Barracuda?

Barracuda is a Bayesian spam filtering program. This means that it analyzes incoming email based on it's content and compares it to known spam messages to decide if the incoming message is spam or not.

How do I use Barracuda?

You don't actually have do to anything for Barracuda to work! It will sit in the background, silently filtering out unwanted messages. However, on occasion you may wish to personalize your Barracuda settings, or check to see if messages are getting blocked that you wish to receive.
To do this, go to http://nospam.netwurx.net, and login using your full email address and password. You will be logged into your "Quarantine Inbox", which will display all messages that have been Quarantined, and left for your review. To pass any messages that you want to receive, click on the check boxes to the left of each wanted message and then click the "Not Spam/Whitelist" button. Then, check the rest of the messages by using the uppermost checkbox and click "Classify As Spam". Choosing these options will make use of Barracuda's ability to "learn" what is spam and what is not, and enhance its performance for you.
If you are unable to login, have trouble with these steps, or have any other questions, call customer support at 800-638-9879 and a support technician will aid you in implementing Barracuda to meet your needs.

What are all these settings in Barracuda?

In the Quarantine Inbox screen (Tab at the top), if you have something that is in the Quarantine box, and you want to make sure the system does not classify it as spam. Select the checkbox next to it and select classify as not spam. Try to use this instead of whitelist. This way, you will be "training" the program. It will also deliver that piece of mail to your mailbox.

Changing Spam Settings

If you log into Barracuda, you will see a tab at the top called Preferences. If you click that and click the button called Spam Settings, you can turn off system defaults and change the filters for that user to tighten them up a bit if need be. To do that select "No" for system defaults and click Save changes. You now have 3 boxes that you can play with.

Tag Score: This is used only you want the email delivered to you, to your inbox stating that the filter thinks it is spam. By default, it is just turned off, it is not recommended that you turn it on.

Quarantine Score: This means any email coming in with a score of 4 (assuming that it's set to 4) or more will be saved to the Quarantine box in Barracuda.

Block Score: This means any email coming in with a score of 6 (assuming that it's set to 6) or more will be blocked completely and you will NOT see the email in your Quarantine.

Note: Block always wins, if a piece of spam comes in, it will only Quarantine between the number of the Quarantine Score and the Block score. If the block score is a lower number than the Quarantine score, it will just be blocked.

Most legit emails don't score above 2, and many don't score above 1 or 1.2 or so. The default settings that are there already should be OK for most cases.
